History
Welcome to the History website from the Lacon Childe School.
Pupils will discover that this website can be a jumping off point for research for History projects here at Lacon Childe, provide information for examination coursework and revision guidance. For example, you might want to try the link below.

History at Lacon Childe is a forward (and backward!) looking subject. We aim to be as dynamic and modern in our approach to History teaching and learning as much as possible. This website is just one part of our plan to maintain a vibrant and exciting department that allows students to learn in a supportive and challenging atmosphere in which all potential is fulfilled. We also aim to provide a wide variety of skills for our students, and in particular, transferable ones which will be of great use after leaving Lacon Childe. Those who learn to analyse and communicate ideas effectively are in a strong position in most Further Education courses and careers.
The Lacon Childe History Department Website will be developed during the school year 2007-2008 for all year groups to cover key issues.
Geography
Geography is a popular subject with the Humanities Faculty, housed in two demountable classrooms separate from the main building of the school. Both classrooms are well equipped. A broad range of topics is studied, with a balance between human and physical geography units of work. In KS3, the time allocation is 1.5 hours per week and in KS4, this rises to 2.5 hours per week.
In KS3, the National Curriculum is followed, and currently, the KS4 GCSE course follows the AQA, Syllabus A, scheme. This qualification has two final written exam papers and a compulsory controlled assessment element to be completed in 20 hours. This forms 25% of the assessment criteria. Currently an average of 70 pupils each year, opt to study Geography at GCSE level.
