OFSTED 2009
Outstanding, that was the simple message from HMI Mike Smith after he spent almost a week inspecting Lacon Childe. The inspection began with scrutiny of performance data on the school, and analysis of the school’s own self-evaluation materials. Then after a day in the school he drew up the judgements. Out of the 27 areas where inspectors make a judgement Lacon was found to be ‘outstanding’ in 25 and the remaining two were ‘good’. Currently we are waiting to see the final report and have only the verbal feedback to comment on. This feedback was very, very positive. Pupils were commended for the way they approached their learning, and their maturity. Staff were praised for their hard work, dedication and expertise. Finally, the support of governors for the school was noted. Therefore it was a real team effort to secure ‘Outstanding’! Hopefully, by the time you read this you will also have access to the report and be able to see just how good the school is.
The inspection showed that the school has steadily improved since the last inspected when the verdict was good. It also shows that Lacon Childe really is an amazing place where amazing things can happen.
Flu Pandemic
The media is currently giving full coverage to the ‘flu pandemic’. Hopefully it will not be as bad as some sources are suggesting. The DCSF, are giving support to schools should they be affected, and we have our own plans to deal with the situation in a calm and effective way.
